BASF receives registration for first Canadian fungicide with XEMIUM active

MISSISSAUGA, ON, November 26, 2012 – BASF Canada Inc. (BASF) has received its first fungicide registration for the highly-anticipated active ingredient XEMIUM™. New Priaxor™ DS is the first Canadian fungicide containing the new active ingredient XEMIUM, an entirely new active in the carboxamide family. Priaxor DS is registered on field peas, lentils and chickpeas.

Priaxor DS uses multiple modes of action to bind itself to the leaf surface for immediate contact activity. It then provides ongoing systemic activity to redistribute throughout the plant for continuous disease protection – even on areas of the plant that were missed during spraying.

“It’s not often that a fungicide with this kind of mobility comes to market,” says Jason Leitch, Brand Manager – Fungicide, at BASF Canada. “Priaxor DS acts quickly to protect against such key pulse crop diseases as mycosphaerella blight in peas and anthracnose in lentils. But it’s the ongoing activity that makes it so unique.”

Priaxor DS combines XEMIUM premixed with the active ingredient found in Headline® to provide growers with a new multiple mode of action fungicide for disease resistance management. This combination also offers the plant health benefits of AgCelence® including larger pods, consistent seed size and improved harvestability with an average yield advantage of up to 3 bu/ac compared to other treatments.

“Growers have told us they want higher yields with improved seed quality in pulses,” says Leitch. “Priaxor DS has shown it delivers both.”

This is the first of several fungicides in the BASF pipeline that will feature the new XEMIUM active ingredient. The launch of new fungicide products containing XEMIUM will be phased in as BASF addresses global Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) on other crops as part of its commitment to delivering sustainable solutions to Canadian growers.
