Eragon

Eragon ® herbicide improves your pre-plant/pre-emergence glyphosate burndown for wheat, barley, corn and soybeans. It provides fast, complete control of broadleaf weeds so you get your crop off to the best start possible.

Eragon as a harvest aid and desiccant for pre-harvest applications provides fast, complete dry down of crops and weeds. It reduces regrowth to improve crop uniformity and harvestability.

How it works

Pre-plant/Pre-emergence

  • Provides consistent control of tough broadleaf weeds up to the 8-leaf stage.
  • Tank-mixed with glyphosate, provides multiple modes of action to help delay and manage herbicide resistance.
  • Controls weeds resistant to glyphosate, triazine and Group 2 chemistries.

Harvest Aid and Desiccant

  • Eragon provides fast, complete dry down of both crop and weeds with reduced risk of crop regrowth.
  • Improves crop uniformity, facilitating direct and more efficient harvesting.
  • Controls a broader weed spectrum with improved weed dry down.
  • Controls perennials in the fall for cleaner fields in the following spring.

When to apply

Pre-plant or Pre-emergence

Crops Staging
Wheat (spring, winter, durum) Pre-plant, Pre-emergence
Barley (winter, spring) Pre-plant, Pre-emergence
Corn (field,sweet) Pre-plant, Pre-emergence
Soybeans Pre-plant

Crops Staging
Dry Beans* Apply when 90% of the pods have changed colour from green to yellow and/or light brown. 80% to 90% of the original leaves have dropped. The stems are green to brown in colour. The pods on the lower canopy mature first, so the few remaining green pods will only be located in the top of the canopy.
Soybeans Apply when 90% of the pods have changed colour, with the lower pods essentially being all brown and the upper pods being a yellowish-brown or grey in some varieties. At this point 80% of the leaves should have dropped with the remaining leaves being yellow.

*When tank-mixing Eragon with glyphosate, consult glyphosate label or BASF representative for information on the use on specific varieties of dry common beans.

The following pre-harvest intervals should be observed for respective crops when Eragon is used as a harvest aid and desiccant.

Drybeans 2 days
Soybeans 3 days

How much to apply

Pre-plant/Pre-emergence

One case will treat 60 to 120 acres, depending on rate.

Wheat, Barley Eragon 14.6 to 28.7 g/ac (36 to 71 g/ha) 1
Soybeans Eragon 14.6 g/ac (36 g/ha)
Corn Eragon 28.7 to 58 g/ac (71 to 143 g/ha)
Glyphosate 2 Refer to glyphosate label
Merge adjuvant 2 400 ml/ac (1 L/ha)

Water Volume

Ground Application 40 L/ac (10 gal/ac) minimum

Pre-harvest Harvest Aid and Desiccant

One case treats 60 to 120 acres, depending on rate used.

Seed bean production 3 or restrictions on glyphosate use:

Eragon 29 g/ac (71 g/ha)
Merge adjuvant 2 400 ml/ac (1 L/ha)

No restrictions on glyphosate use:

Eragon 14.6 to 29 g/ac (36 to 71 g/ha)
Glyphosate 2 Refer to glyphosate label
Merge adjuvant 2 400 ml/ac (1 L/ha)

Water Volume

Ground Application 76 L/ac (20 gal/ac) minimum

1 For suppression of secondary weed flushes in wheat and barley, use the 28.7 g/ac rate.
2 Glyphosate and Merge adjuvant are not included in the case.
3 Do not tank mix Eragon with glyphosate on fields grown for seed bean production, as glyphosate may affect seed germination. Eragon (29 g/ac) plus Merge should be used in fields used for seed production or if there are restrictions on the use of glyphosate. Always check with your bean contractor to ensure Maximum Residue Limits (MRL) guidelines are followed.

Mixing instructions

1. Fill clean spray tank 1/2 full with water and start agitation.

2. Add the correct amount of Eragon herbicide and continue to agitate until fully dissolved.

3. Add the correct amount of glyphosate while continuing agitation.

4. Add additional tank-mix partner if applying.

5. Add the correct amount of Merge adjuvant.

6. Continue agitation while filling the remainder of the spray tank with water.

7. After any break in spraying operation, agitate thoroughly before spraying again. Check inside the tank to ensure that sprayer agitation is sufficient to remix the spray materials. Do not allow the mixture to sit over night.

8. If an oil film starts to build up in the tank, drain it and clean the tank with strong detergent solution.

9. Immediately after use, thoroughly clean the sprayer by flushing the system with clean water containing detergent.

10. Dispose of all rinsings in accordance with provincial regulations.

Application tips

To optimize the broadleaf activity when applying Eragon for pre-plant/pre-emergence, follow these guidelines:

  • Always add an adjuvant (Merge ® ) at the recommended rate.
  • Use a minimum water volume of 40 L/ac (10 gal/ac) to maximize coverage.
  • If weeds are large or densities are high, higher water volumes may be required.

To optimize the use of Eragon as a harvest aid and desiccant for pre-harvest,*  follow these guidelines:

  • Always add an adjuvant (Merge ® ) at the recommended rate.
  • Use a water volume of 80 L/ac (20 gal/ac) to maximize coverage.
  • Ground application may be done with a standard boom sprayer.

Rainfastness – Eragon is very rainfast. If using glyphosate in any of the above applications, refer to the glyphosate label for information regarding interval between application and rainfall event.

*The tank mix with glyphosate may affect seed germination. DO NOT tank mix with glyphosate on fields grown for seed production.

*Always check with your bean contractor to ensure Maximum Residue Limits (MRL) guidelines are followed.

Tank mixes

Pre-plant/Pre-emergence

For broad spectrum weed control, Eragon should always be tank mixed with glyphosate present as isopropylamine salt, di-ammonium salt or potassium salt. Eragon is compatible with all liquid glyphosate formulations, in which glyphosate is present as isopropylamine salt, di-ammonium salt or potassium salt, as a tank-mix partner.

In addition to glyphosate, Eragon can also be tank mixed with:

  • Frontier ® Max
  • Pursuit ®

Note: Please refer to label for tank-mix rate information.

Pre-harvest Harvest Aid and Desiccant

  • Glyphosate

Weeds controlled

For broad spectrum weed control Eragon should always be tank mixed with glyphosate.
